Teaching on the Isle of Sheppey
The Stour Academy Trust are looking to recruit enthusiastic and resilient teachers to join our passionate team at Richmond Academy, starting in September 2019.
Richmond Academy is undergoing an enriching transformation under the ‘strong and inspirational leadership’ of The Stour Academy Trust. Inspected by Ofsted in February 2019, the effective leadership was highlighted, “The headteacher has brought stability and a renewed sense of ambition to the school. She has won the confidence of staff, pupils and many parents with her clarity of vision and openness.”
This is the perfect opportunity to join a team of likeminded staff who want to provide the best education possible for its pupils.
Our support given to our teachers, including NQT’s was also emphasised by Ofsted:
Leaders provide effective support for teachers, many of whom are new to the school and the profession. Teachers are proud to work in the school and benefit from high quality training.
Teachers, almost all of whom started at the school in September 2018, and some of whom are new to the profession, are proud to work at the school. They feel well supported by leaders, who they believe care for their well-being. One member of staff who responded to Ofsted’s online survey wrote, 'The leadership team are endlessly supportive and treat staff with respect. They have put in place an excellent work-life balance and always make time for their staff.'
The school and trust provide time and opportunities for teachers to update their skills. For example, teachers moderate their assessment of pupils’ work with colleagues from other trust schools and benefit from training sessions led by experts from a local university.
Leaders at all levels are passionate about the school, knowledgeable about their roles and relentless in driving through the agreed priorities. They provide effective support to teachers in classrooms, and help pupils to do better in their learning.

The Isle of Sheppey boasts wonderful marsh surroundings and is home to two unspoilt Nature Reserves. Elmley and Swale Nature Reserves are renowned for their wildlife and home to a variety of birds of prey which are known to breed in the area. The reserves are perfect for peaceful walks and reflection.
The island is full of sporting activities; you can learn to ride the waves at Minster Leas and the Isle of Sheppey Sailing Club or find kayaking, boating and kiting at Barton Point Coastal Park. There are also popular fishing lakes to be found in the area. If staying on dry land is more your thing then cycling on The Isle of Harty Trail or The Sheerness Way is a great pastime for you to enjoy and helps showcase the unique scenery found on the island.
Transport links to the island are strong; the M2 is a short 15 minutes’ drive and the M20 is 30 minutes away, offering quick access to the rest of the county. There are also two train stations on the island which provide regular links to other Kent towns in under an hour, and to London in an hour and a half.
